A lo largo de los años se han multiplicado las iniciativas de open source para proveer de programas de calidad alta en cuasi todas las areas de aplicativos. Desde hace algun tiempo el 2D CAD también tiene su programa opensource de alta calidad, con DraftSight nascido de una iniciativa de Dassault Systemes.
En los últimos años la robotica ha evolucionado a pasos de gigante, y los robots de objectos de investigación groseros y toscos han pasado a ser elementos cada vez mas sofisticados y con habilidades cada vez impresionantes. El ultimo ejemplo visto, es la reconstrucción del aspecto humano sobre un robot capaz de demonstrar emociones a través de sus características físicas. Ver las imágenes es impresionante por el avance realizado en tan poco tiempo, y también por la dedicación de los cientificos en hacer progredir esta rama científica de una forma tan notoria.
Pero una pregunta debe inmediatamente asaltar la mente. ¿ No nos estamos pasando ya? No estaremos creando los robots de Matrix o de Terminator? Unos seres mucho mas poderosos que los humanos, mas inteligentes y con una capacidad de progresión mucho mayor que el ser humano cuya evolución basada en genética es muy lenta, cuando comparada con la evolución tecnológica y electrónica que duplica su capacidad cada 18 meses?
La evolución es excitante y asustadora y merece un poco de auto-critica, por lo que he pensada pasar a incluir el tema de la robotica en este blog.
Desde que Cesar Alierta abrio el melon de las peticiones a Google, y sobre que esta deberia pagar por el uso de la red de Telefónica, que no se ha vuelto a saber nada sobre este tema. Ahora en la prensa, empiezan a salir noticias de Telefonica y Google estarian cerrando un acuerdo para el pago, por parte de Google, por la utilización de la red de Telefónica.
La noticia me sorpreende porque no veo a Google pagar por hacer crecer las necesidades de banda ancha que tienen el comun de los mortales internautas, y que ha conseguido que Telefónica, pasase de vender adsls de 256Kbps a 50Mbps, y siempre con aumento de precio, mientras que en el restante mundo civilizado, los costes de comunicación han bajado. No será antes de que Google, dentro del plan que inicio hace unos años a trás de comprar fibra negra (no utilizada) a los prinicipales operadores de telecomunicaciones mundiales, para poder de esta forma construir su propria infraestructura avanzada de telecomunicaciones, no estará intentando hacer lo mismo con Telefónica, sin que estos se dén cuenta?
El tema me parece salido de la fiesta del té de Alicia en el pais de la maravillas, donde cada uno habla de lo que le interesa, sin entender nada de lo que los otros están hablando.
Las plataformas moviles han en ultimos años avanzado de forma importante en su capacidad de reproducir videojuegos de una forma semejante a la que se puede encontrar en una consola de videojuegos. Del simples Java, a los juegos mas complejos que hoy se pueden encontrar en cualquier Iphone o telefono andrioid, con acceleracion 3D en tiempo real, hay apenas unos cuantos años, pero hay una importante evolución tecnologica. Ahora, los fabricantes de consola parecen que se están dando cuenta del posible peligro que puede venir desde los fabricantes de moviles, y empiezan a tomar posición para evitarlo. El ejemplo mas puntero de esto, es SONY con sus dos acciones paralelas: i) NGP con capacidad de comunicación 3D; ii) Servicio PSP para moviles de alto de gama. El objectivo competir en el espacio de los fabricantes de moviles, antes de que hayan absorvido el segmento de los juegos casuales moviles.
COn su Xperia Play, Sony está dando un grande paso, en su posicionamiento con proveedor de contenido de futuro, colocando sus juegos através de esta aplicación, en un sin fin de aparatos de ultima generación.
Microsoft lo ha intentado hacer antes con el ZUNE y el Phone 7, con el ZUNE fracaso, y con el Phone 7, todavia es muy pronto para ver el resultado.
El X10 es un telefono bastante interesante, pero que salio con un sistema android antiguo y para las cuales las operadoras espa?olas no han querido disponibilizar la versi?n 2.1. As seen in the techeye.net website, London's mayor wants to transform the city into a huge open wifi city by 2012 on time for the 2012 olympic games.
The news is interesting because a lot of wifi observers were thinking the the wifi technology would in the end allow the creation of public networks freely available across a city. But the truth is that none of this has happened, and most of the cities with similar projects cancelled them, or simply has rolled a couple of access points, more for the sake of press, than for the real benefit of the city and its citizens.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has today promised that London will be covered in Wi-Fi by the 2012 Olympic Games.
The pledge came at the Google Zeitgeist event held in Hertfordshire, where he said that ?every lampost and every bus stop will one day very soon, and before the 2012 Olympics, be Wi-Fi enabled.?
He even went so far as to say that this is only part of the process, and that City Hall planned to make London the technology capital of the world. He said that Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the internet, was a Londoner and ?so we claim paternity of the internet?. ?London is the home of technology innovation,? he added, saying that the most important project they are planning is called Wifi London.
This new plan will involve installing wi-fi hotspots into street lights and bus stops, which will use the existing electrical supply for those services. Considering how many street lights and bus stops there are around London this would mean thousands of new Wi-Fi hotspots will be popping up. If we couple that with existing ones in cafes and other areas it may mean that you can walk from one end of London to another without ever having to rely on your 3G network for an internet connection.

In the last months a lot of new news about the future of the Wifi, have been published. Most of them predicting his end, as the the cellular data 3G, has been growing steadly in bandwidth and usage, putting the wifi in a strange situation more focused in home networks, than really MAN or WANs. Parallely, with the new life of the powerline communications, that are coming back to the market with some strengh, allowing to create high bandwith networks without creating any infrastructure, that can reach all the points inside a house, created also some challenge in that area. But now, there are news about the Wifi HD, that will in the future push the bandwidth available for Wifi up to the 7 Gigabits per second. Yes, 7 Gigabit per second, you have read correctly.
One of the most interesting technologies coming along for the WIFI space, is the UMTS base station, which is basically a Wifi router with an UMTS card, that allows to immediatly connect through Wifi, from anyplace using this new hardware.
Over the last years, the UMTS speed increase and the price decreased, accompagnied by the fact that netbooks and notebooks sales have been booming, have caused the number of UMTS users to soar high, while the ADSL has been growing slower.
One of the main problems associated with the UMTS cards, is that only one pc was able to connect to the internet (with standard solutions) which creaed a bottleneck into the utilization of the service, in case you needed several machines to access the web.
